Ron Perlman using social media to push for Hellboy III to close the trilogy

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Off screen, director Guillermo Del Toro and actor Ron Perlman may be buddies, but that doesn't mean they have to agree on everything. For instance, Del Toro is pretty sure that HELLBOY III is never going to happen. On the other hand, Perlman feels the filmmaker owes it to the world to finish the comic book adaptation with another film.

Perlman is so outspoken about the third film that he has taken to social media to push for fan support for HELLBOY III. It started with this tweet:

The hashtag has also moved to Facebook where it has been shared over 10,000 times with over 35,000 likes. While this may not be enough to persuade producers, it is still early in the process. HELLBOY III is not the sort of project that can get backing via Kickstarter or similar crowdfunding platforms, but I would be willing to wager many of you out there would pony up some cash to make it happen. The original HELLBOY grossed just $99 million worldwide on a $66 million budget while HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY grossed $160 million on an $85 million budget. For comparison, PACIFIC RIM cost $190 million to make and only grossed $101 million domestically. That sequel was greenlit thanks to the $300 million in international box office.

HELLBOY III is probably a very long shot at this point, at least with Guillermo Del Toro involved. But, maybe Ron Perlman can return with a different director and a scaled down plot. Some Hellboy is better than no Hellboy, right?
