Ronda Rousey and The Raid’s Iko Uwais to star in buddy cop movie Mile 22

When you hear the term “buddy cop” movie, you likely instantly think of LETHAL WEAPON or maybe RUSH HOUR. The common thread is it is usually a straight, by the books cop and a funny partner. Or, at the very least, it is one partner who is a cop and another who has a special set of skills like martial arts or being undead. There are very few examples of both cops being adept martial artists but that seems about to change as THE RAID’s Iko Uwais is set to team up with UFC fighter Ronda Rousey for the action flick MILE 22.

LONE SURVIVOR director Peter Berg is set to produce the movie that sounds pretty cool if not a little direct to Redbox.

The film explores the relationship between a CIA field officer and an Indonesian police officer forced to work together as they confront violent and extreme political corruption.

Peter Berg issued a statement about the film saying he wants to evoke the same type of action seen in Gareth Evans‘ RAID movies. While Uwais is currently working on Evans’ next film, BLISTER, as fight choreographer as well as a role in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, Rousey has worked in THE EXPENDABLES 3 and the upcoming FURIOUS 7. Both actors are very hot right now and this seems like it has the potential to be a fun movie. For all the crap Berg gets because of BATTLESHIP, the guy has done good work with action scenes going back to THE RUNDOWN.

There is no word on when production will begin on the Graham Roland-scripted film or who is directing, but expect to see it begin shooting this year. Rousey seems ready for her next challenge after that quick fight over the weekend.
