Claire Temple in Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a bona fide box office phenomenon as the fourth solo entry in the MCU Spider-Man era continues to break records and contributes, along with The Odyssey, to bringing audiences back to theaters. One of the aspects of the new film that viewers are reacting positively to is the integration of other MCU characters in an organic way. There was actually another cameo appearance that was supposed to take place in the film in the form of Daredevil‘s Claire Temple, who is played by Rosario Dawson.
According to Variety, Dawson recently appeared at GalaxyCon in North Carolina alongside Daredevil co-star Vincent D’Onofrio for a Q&A. Dawson was asked which superhero she would most like to work with and that’s when she unveiled that she was supposed to be in Brand New Day. She answered,
Well, I’m going to have to say — I could have said Spider-Man. I even shot a scene in the new Spider-Man movie, but I got cut out.”sponsored content
The revelation was greeted with a disappointed groan from the crowd and Dawson reacted off it, adding,
I know. I told my mom, and she was like, ‘That sucks. Now I can’t post the pictures.’ And I was like, ‘Right mom, me being cut out of the movie that has the largest viewership of a trailer ever, the issue is you can’t post the BTS photos.’”
Dawson would go on to describe what makes Spider-Man special for her, citing her uncle, who is a comic book artist and the web crawler was the first character she learned to draw. She expounded,
There’s a frame in one of the new comics that has a young Spider-Man talking to Daredevil, and they made it so that the young Spider-Man goes to PS19 in the Lower East Side, which is where I went to elementary school. So when I tell you my post was already ready with my BTS, with my grandson wearing all his Spider-Man stuff … Then I got the email that was like, ‘Yeah, nah.’”
Tom Holland’s Future
Luckily for fans, Holland is interested in continuing with more Spider-Man entries. Sony’s Tom Rothman reveals that he has not officially signed Tom Holland on for more movies yet, “No, not in any concrete sense — only aspirational.” But he is incredibly pleased to hear that Holland has been enthusiastically open to play Peter Parker for more entries, “I can tell you when I heard that Tom said that, I jumped for joy. All I will say is that hope springs eternal. I really hope so.”
