Ross writes Venom

I know we’re mostly dedicated to all things horror around these parts, and that mega tent-pole comic book flicks hardly conjure as much love. Well, it doesn’t get more gothic or sinister than VENOM, arch-nemesis to beloved sticky web-shooter SPIDER-MAN.

So given that, we’re damn thrilled to report that Gary Ross, the man currently hard at work on the screenplay for SPIDER-MAN 4, has been tipped to ink Columbia’s spinoff movie VENOM, a project Ross my direct himself (according to Heat Vision).

With SPIDERMAN 4 etched for a 2011 release, as is Breck Eisner’s CREATURE OF THE BLACK LAGOON (also penned by Ross), VENOM still looks to be a ways away.

I can’t say I’m all that surprised with this news, given Ross’ involvement in the SPIDER-MAN 4 and his status as A-list script doctor. More shocking is the consecutive days of Topher Grace news, who is not only taking part in PREDATORS, but is neither denied or confirmed to reprise his role as Venom/Eddie Brock from 2007s SPIDERMAN 3. Still, his name persists.

If Ross indeed directs VENOM, it’ll be his first time yelling “cut” since SEABISCUIT in 2003. Could be a nice return, no?!?
