FilmoFilia has news that Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts has joined the cast of ANIMAL RESCUE, which will be directed by Michael P. Roskam. The two have worked together before for the film BULLHEAD and this will be Roskam’s first American film. The movie is based of a short story by SHUTTER ISLAND and GONE BABY GONE author Dennis Lehane, who is also adapting the script. Schoenaerts joins previously announced cast members Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace.

ANIMAL RESCUE is about:

A man (Hardy) who wants to shed his criminal past, but ‘gets mixed up in a bad heist and a killing resulting from a lost and contested pit bull.

Noomi Rapace will be playing a woman with a scar across her neck that gets mixed up with Hardy’s character, while Matthias Schoenaerts‘ role isn’t specified.

I thought BULLHEAD was fantastic and a lot of the credit goes to Matthias Schoenaerts performance. I’m excited to see him teaming up with Michael P. Roskam again and throwing Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace into the mix is just icing on the cake. I’ve enjoyed previous Dennis Lehane adaptations and this looks like it could be as good as the other films based on the author’s work.

ANIMAL RESCUE starts filming next month.
