Deadpool as a supporting character
Ryan Reynolds took Deadpool from a fringe superhero character to a multiverse-hopping Marvel Jesus, who was able to revive Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and a spell of other Marvel properties for one last hurrah. But after the massive success and popularity of Deadpool & Wolverine, will Reynolds continue to play Wade Wilson til he’s 90? Originally, Reynolds admitted he’d written more material for the character, but he was more interested in limiting him to a supporting character. Reynolds said in a recent interview with Sunday Today, “I have some stuff kind of written, but I don’t think I am ever going to center him again. He is a supporting character. He is a guy who is great in a group.”
Reynolds says there will be another installment
Deadpool & Wolverine is a hard act to follow, but despite comments that Reynolds would have the Merc with a Mouth pull back to a supporter, never fear, for he says that there will still be another sequel coming. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the star appeared at Fanatics Fest 2026 and told a crowd there,
There’s a few really deep cuts that I think are missing behind the movies. I think there’s a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics. There’s certainly some stuff that, you know, I love that Fabian Nicieza [co-creator of Deadpool] wrote that is incredible. Gerry Duggan, who was a friend, was an incredible comic writer. There’s stuff upcoming. There’s eventually, you know, remotely another Deadpool film. It’s going to be great.”sponsored content
Deadpool in X-Men or Avengers?
When he was asked if he thinks the Merc with a Mouth will ever join the X-Men or the Avengers, Reynolds won’t count it out, but he does think it would be a sign for the character to retire, “If he becomes either, we’re at the end. Deadpool works so well appearing with the X-Men and Avengers, but he always needs to stay an outsider. His ultimate dream is to be accepted and appreciated. But he can’t be accepted. His coping mechanism of deflecting shame through humor works only when used to pave over his many inadequacies. If and when he does become an Avenger or X-Man, we’re at the end of his journey.”
