Ryan Reynolds in talks to star in adaptation of Dragon’s Lair

Sure, the COVID-19 pandemic may have brought production of just about every movie and TV project to a halt, but Hollywood is still doing its thing behind the scenes. THR has reported that Ryan Reynolds is currently in talks to star in and produce a live-action feature adaptation of iconic video-game, Dragon's Lair.

Netflix closed a deal to for the rights to the video-game after close to a year of negotiations, and the project is set to be penned by Dan and Kevin Hageman (SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK). Dragon's Lair was unique in that it featured movie-style animation from Don Bluth (THE LAND BEFORE TIME). The story followed a knight by the name of Dirk the Daring as he set off to rescue Princess Daphne from the evil dragon Singe who has locked the princess in the castle of Mordroc the wizard. It seems that Reynolds is enjoying working with Netflix, as he previously starred in Michael Bay's 6 UNDERGROUND and was in the midst of shooting RED NOTICE with Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot before the coronavirus outbreak.

Here's how Dragon's Lair is described:

Dragon’s Lair: The fantasy adventure where you become a valiant knight, on a quest to rescue the fair princess from the clutches of an evil dragon. You control the actions of a daring adventurer, finding his way through the castle of a dark wizard, who has enchanted it with treacherous monsters and obstacles. In the mysterious caverns below the castle, your odyssey continues against the awesome forces that oppose your efforts to reach the Dragon’s Lair. Lead on, adventurer. Your quest awaits!

Ryan Reynolds will next be seen in FREE GUY on July 3, 2020, although that date may be pushed back due to the coronavirus crisis, as well as THE HITMAN'S WIFE'S BODYGUARD on August 28, 2020 and THE CROODS 2 on December 23, 2020.
