I haven't been paying much attention to the development of the FEAR STREET trilogy that director Leigh Janiak is currently in production on, because I have no connection to the source material written by R.L. Stine. I didn't read any Fear Street books. I do think it's pretty cool that Janiak is getting the chance to make these movies back-to-back-to-back. She also got to craft the stories with a writers room that included Phil Graziadei, Zak Olkewicz, Roberto Patino, and Kate Trefry, and this is what they came up with:

Synopsis for movie 1:

In 1994, in the aftermath of a brutal tragedy in Shadyside, Ohio, a group of teens discovers that a series of horrifying events that have plagued their town over many years might not be random and that they may be the next victims.

Synopsis for movie 2:

In 1978, Camp Nightwing is divided by the campers and counselors who hail from the of prosperous town of Sunnyvale and the campers and maintenance staffers from the downtrodden town of Shadyside, but when horrors from their towns shared history come alive, they must band together to solve a terrifying mystery before it’s too late.

Synopsis for movie 3:

In 1666, a colonial town is gripped by a hysterical witch-hunt that has deadly consequences for centuries to come, and it’s up to teenagers in 1994 to try and finally put an end to their town’s curse, before it’s too late.

The names of several cast members have been announced for these films – Gillian Jacobs, Sadie Sink, Emily Rudd, McCabe Slye, Kiana Madeira, Olivia Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr., Ashley Zukerman, Fred Hechinger, Julia Rehwald, and Jeremy Ford. Now another name has been added to the list.

Ryan Simpkins has signed on to appear in the second FEAR STREET movie. Her previous credits include LADYWORLD, ANGUISH, HANGMAN, SURVEILLANCE, and Francis Ford Coppola's TWIXT. Details on her FEAR STREET character were not revealed.

Movie 2 sounds like the best of the bunch to join as far as I'm concerned. That late '70s camp setting is the most appealing to me. Least appealing is movie 3 with the 1666 story.

The FEAR STREET trilogy is being produced by Chernin Entertainment for Fox-Disney.
