Sam Raimi may direct drama Love May Fail for Sony

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Sam Raimi may have found his next project and it will be in a genre he hasn’t worked in for some time. Sony is in talks with the SPIDER-MAN and ARMY OF DARKNESS director to helm the adaptation of Matthew Quick’s novel LOVE MAY FAIL. Quick is best known for his book SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK which was adapted into David O. Russell‘s award-winning feature starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.

LOVE MAY FAIL will return Raimi to the real of drama and romance, one he last visited in the baseball drama FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME starring Kevin Costner. Raimi is often associated with his big budget blockbusters or low budget horror but few think of him for his dramatic talents.

In Quick’s novel, a woman who is coming off a demoralizing ending to her marriage to a cheating husband, returns to her hometown determined to clear the name of her favorite English teacher, whose career was forcibly ended after a classroom scandal.

Raimi is currently developing the video game THE LAST OF US for Sony but will merely serve as producer on the project. LOVE MAY FAIL sounds like it has the potential to be either a stirring serious film or one steeped in melodrama. It remains to be seen what interest Sam Raimi has in the novel which will not even be published until next year.

Anything Raimi does peaks our interest, so stay tuned as this develops.
