Sam Smith confirmed for Spectre theme song “Writing’s On The Wall”

Last year it was rumored that British singer Sam Smith had been tapped to perform the theme song for Sam Mendes' SPECTRE, and although bookmakers recently had Radiohead and Ellie Goulding as the favorites to do the opening tune, yesterday on Instagram, Smith announced that he has recorded the theme for the 24th Bond flick. The "Stay With Me" crooner also revealed the song's title: "Writing's On The Wall."

 

This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it. During an interview with Radio 1, Sam Smith said he recorded the song in January, and that it only took him and regular collaborator Jimmy Napes about 20 minutes to write the track. Do you think Smith will be able to top Adele's SKYFALL theme?

"Writing's On The Wall" will be released on September 25th, while SPECTRE will hit theaters on November 6th.
