Samara Weaving (Snake Eyes Interview)

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Samara Weaving has steadily been gaining momentum since she began pursuing roles in the U.S. Weaving started her career in her home country of Australia, landing her first role on the series Out of the Blue in 2008. Weaving followed this up playing Indi Walker on the soap opera Home and Away from 2009-2013, a role that landed her Australia Academy of Cinema and Television Arts nomination.

Weaving became known to U.S. audiences after she guest-starred on Ash vs Evil Dead and became a series regular on SMLIF in 2017. That very same year, Weaving appeared in the films Mayhem and The Babysitter and she had a supporting role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. In 2019, Weaving's profile soared even higher she headlined the horror-comedy, Ready or Not, which proved to be a critical and commercial success. Between Ryan Murphy's Hollywood and being featured in Bill & Ted Face the Music, Weaving continues to impress with roles that showcase different facets of her talent and that's a trend she's continuing by playing Scarlett in Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins.

In the film, which serves as an origin story for the titular character, Weaving gets to represent G.I. Joe as she is brought on board to help Clan Arashikage, an ancient Japanese ninja clan. It's clear that as these films go on, Scarlett will be even more integral to the story but Weaving leaves an impression the first moment she appears on screen. I had a chance to chat with the actress about her grand entrance into the film, which was surprisingly done as a part of reshoots, how it feels to share the screen with the other badass women of the film,  and who she's got when comes down to a fight between herself and Baroness (Ursula Corbero). I also got to let her know that I'm a HUGE fan of Ready or Not and it was cool to see her appreciate the sentiment.
