An interesting, albeit brief, over at Deadline.com reveals that Dimension Films is bringing in a new President of Production in the form of Brad Luff; Luff had previously been VP of production at Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and oversaw the upcoming Duane “The Rock” Johnson action flick DRIVE as well as QUARANTINE 2 for the studio.
While that’s not exciting in and of itself, the article mentions what Luff and the studio will be focusing on in the near future. First up, of course, is the post-production of SCREAM 4 and production of Robert Rodriguez’s SPY KIDS 4, but after that the site lists the following films as being in their sights: AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, CHILDREN OF THE CORN, HELLRAISER, SIN CITY 2, SCARY MOVIE 5, SHORT CIRCUIT and SCANNERS. Yowza!
Anyone else think it’s weird that the studio is simultaneously developing CHILDREN OF THE CORN and HELLRAISER sequels as well as remakes? I suppose their view is, waste not, want not.
In all fairness, we’ve known about most of these reboots already; in August we got the news that the writer of THE NUMBER 23 was hired to pen the AMERICAN WEREWOLF remake, while just the other day Robert Rodriguez let loose with the news that he and Frank Miller are already working on the SIN CITY 2 script and it’s his planned project after SPY KIDS 4 (which the world really needs). The only real surprise is SCANNERS, which has seemed pretty much dead after Darren Lynn Bousman exited the project back in 2008. Dimension isn’t f’n around though – they want to get back to what they do best, and they’re obviously going to dredge up every single namebrand available to them.
Jessica Alba will star in SPY KIDS 4 and, we can hope, SIN CITY 2
