Some late news out of Variety this evening has Sony Screen Gems, in conjunction with Constantin Film and Unique Features, in line to adapt a series of bestselling books known as THE MORTALITY INSTRUMENTS into a potential film franchise. The first book of six up for the big-screen treatment? CITY OF BONES…
Written by Cassandra Clare, the series of young adult novels also includes CITY OF ASHES, CITY OF GLASS and CITY OF FALLEN ANGELS (the other two have yet to be completed).
Here’s how CITY OF BONES, adapted by Jessica Postigo, shapes up:
The main characters, Clary Fray and Simon Lewis, are at a club where Clary witnesses a murder by a group of teens, and is shocked that Simon and the club’s security guard, cannot see the culprit—a boy called Jace, who claims that the boy he murdered was a demon. The next day, Jace offers to take Clary to meet his tutor, but before she can do so, she receives a distressing phone call from her mother. She returns home to find her mother missing, the apartment trashed, and a monstrous creature, a Ravenor demon, lying in wait for her.
Sounds decent enough on the page, but for some reason I smell a direct TWILIGHT cousin somewhere in the lieneage. What says you?
