Script issues on Bond 24 could push the film’s release to 2016

There may be trouble in the development of the follow-up to SKYFALL, the currently untitled BOND 24. If stories coming from The Daily Mail are to be believed, issues with the screenplay could potentially push the film into 2016.

SKYFALL was co-written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade who were responsible for the final two Pierce Brosnan Bond films as well as both CASINO ROYALE and QUANTUM OF SOLACE. Director Sam Mendes brought in writer John Logan to bring SKYFALL to the next level and the results were almost universally positive. Purvis and Wade moved on and BOND 24 has been written by Logan on his own. Now it appears that Purvis and Wade are being brought back to “punch up” the script for BOND 24.

A source within the production gave the following quote.

“Let’s call it polite turmoil. People are getting on with their work, but we have to wait for the script, so filming won’t begin till December, a few months later than they wanted.”

Production on BOND 24 was already held off so producers could woo Sam Mendes back into the director’s chair to replicate the success of SKYFALL. At this point, production on a big budget film like this may be able to absorb the delay in filming, but Sony may take the cautious approach and move the release date. We won’t know for sure until the studio tells all, but I would much rather get a quality Bond film than a rushed one.

At this point, BOND 24 is still slated to hit theaters October 23, 2015.
