Pete Segal (GET SMART) has emerged as the frontrunner to direct the third installment in the FOCKERS franchise, MEET THE FOCKERS. Segal formerly wasn’t on the radar of Universal (who had been looking at ROLE MODELS director David Wain among others) because of his commitment to direct GET SMART 2. But when SMART star Steve Carell opted to instead star with Tina Fey in DATE NIGHT (good idea), Segal had an opening in his schedule. A deal hasn’t been signed yet but Segal is meeting with the cast this week and should that go well, Segal will be onboard. Frankly I would’ve been more interested in what Wain can do having not been impressed with many of Segal’s comedies (TOMMY BOY aside but that was basically Chris Farley’s show). I suppose this means that SHAZAM, or at least the version that Segal was developing, truly is dead.
