The business world is full of secrets and lies. In the cutthroat nature of pursuing success, it’s always hard to tell who real friends are and who is only looking out for themselves. That’s the concept of Julianne Moore’s latest film, the Apple TV+ original, Sharper, which just premiered online. The noir thriller features Moore amongst an impressive ensemble of co-stars.

The official Apple TV+ synopsis is below:

Starring Julianne Moore, Sharper unfolds within the secrets of New York City, from the penthouses of Fifth Avenue to the shadowy corners of Queens. Motivations are suspect, and expectations are turned upside down when nothing is as it seems.

No one is who they seem in Sharper, a neo-noir thriller of secrets and lies, set amongst New York City’s bedrooms, barrooms and boardrooms. Characters compete for riches and power in a high stakes game of ambition, greed, lust and jealousy that will keep audiences guessing until the final moment.

Sharper is directed by Benjamin Caron and features a star-studded ensemble cast led by Moore, Sebastian Stan, Justice Smith, newcomer Briana Middleton, and John Lithgow. The film is produced by Jessica Switch and Erik Feig of Picturestart along with Julianne Moore, Bart Freundlich, Brian Gatewood, and Alessandro Tanaka, and written by Gatewood and Tanaka. Julia Hammer and Amy Herman serve as executive producers.”

And there you have it. Sharper looks like a solid, slick thriller. It’s a shame Hollywood hasn’t gotten out of the habit of making these kind of mid-level adult movies, and this is for sure a niche streaming services could step into. Just because a movie is aimed at adults doesn’t mean it has to be awards bait. I think the success of a movie like Deep Water on Hulu goes to show you that these kind of 1990’s throwback thrillers can work. Bring back the days of Malice, Pacific Heights and The Hand That Rocks The Cradle!

The twisted drama will be playing in select theaters on February 10 and will be available to stream globally on Apple TV+ on February 17. Check out the stills and poster below.
