Shia gets Dark

I finally caught THE ILLUSIONIST the other day and while I didn’t love the movie, I was impressed with the director Neil Burger. I was wondering why the guy hasn’t been offered one of those big-budget studio films and no sooner did I ask that question did I see that he, in fact, has. Burger will direct the Universal thriller DARK FIELDS with Shia LaBeouf set to star. The film is based on the 2002 Alan Glynn novel and was adapted by Leslie Dixon (HAIRSPRAY). LaBeouf will star as Eddie Spinola, a copywriter addicted to a new designer drug called MDT-48. Described as “Viagra for the brain” it makes him smarter, faster and more charming. But as the side-effects begin to mount, he starts to investigate the origins of MDT and is horrified to find out about the drug’s past and its intended purpose. LaBeouf is currently filming NEW YORK, I LOVE YOU in New York (obvs) and it’s unclear if he would begin work on DARK FIELDS before or after TRANSFORMERS 2, which is heating up quickly. LaBeouf can be seen this May in INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL and later this year in EAGLE EYE.
