Sigourney Weaver boards Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi comedy Chappie

Sigourney Weaver is back to what she does best, a flick of the sci-fi variety.

The actress (and one of my heroes) has joined Neill Blomkamp’s CHAPPIE. There were no details on the role she would be playing but we do have a synopsis:

“After being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot.”

Weaver joins Sharlto Copley, Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel as well as Ninja and Yolandi Visser of Die Antwoord.

Copley will voice Chappie, and I’ve got this feeling that Ninja and Yolandi will be the criminals. Unless they happen to be part of the “dysfunctional family” which would definitely make for an interesting dynamic.

Production has already begun in Johannesburg, South Africa.
