Sigourney Weaver returning for all three Avatar sequels

James Cameron‘s AVATAR sequels are preparing to return audiences to the world of Pandora with several familiar faces along for the ride. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana were already a lock to come back while Cameron is planning to resurrect both the villainous Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver‘s Grace Augustine. While it remains unknown just how Cameron will bring the two characters back from the dead, Weaver teased some news about her role.

Speaking with Vulture, Weaver shared that she will be back in all three planned AVATAR sequels in a very different capacity than how she appeared in the 2009 original.

“I can’t talk about it, but my part is a little different in each one. I’ll transform somewhat,” she teased.

Whatever she means by transformation likely has to do with the scene in AVATAR where Jake tries to save a dying Augustine by transferring her human soul to her Na’vi avatar. While it appeared to have failed, in the final scene of the film we see it work for Jake to become a native to Pandora. Could Weaver’s character have become a part of the planet itself?

While such a spiritual move would fit in with the larger themes of AVATAR, the fact that Weaver says her part will be a little different in each film leaves room for quite a bit to happen to her role. Hopefully, whatever path she takes, we get to hear some good dialogue out of her mouth.

AVATAR 2 is slated to hit theaters in December 2016.
