Shaun of the Dead: Simon Pegg recreates walk to the shop in holiday message

Earlier this week, we saw Tom Cruise record a message thanking movie-goers for supporting Top Gun: Maverick and wishing everyone safe and happy holidays… while skydiving. Now his Mission: Impossible franchise co-star Simon Pegg has sent out his own holiday message in which he wonders what he could do to make a special message without “jumping off shit” like Cruise. But while he ponders what could make the message special, he happens to be recreating the “walk to the shop” scene from his 2004 zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead (watch it HERE)!

Pegg’s message can be seen in the Instagram embed below, and if you want to compare it to the “walk to the shop” moment in Shaun of the Dead, that clip can be seen HERE.

Directed by Edgar Wright from a screenplay he and Pegg wrote together, Shaun of the Dead has the following synopsis: Shaun is a 30-something loser with a dull, easy existence. When he’s not working at the electronics store, he lives with his slovenly best friend, Ed, in a small flat on the outskirts of London. The only unpredictable element in his life is his girlfriend, Liz, who wishes desperately for Shaun to grow up and be a man. When the town is inexplicably overrun with zombies, Shaun must rise to the occasion and protect both Liz and his mother.

Pegg plays Shaun, and was joined in the cast by Nick Frost, Kate Ashfield, and Penelope Wilton.

While fans have long been hoping to see a sequel to Shaun of the Dead – and we even pitched an idea for one in the Show Me the Sequel video at the top of this article – Pegg has said that the idea of a sequel “baffles” him because most of the main characters are dead. This despite the fact that he came up with his own joke pitch for a follow-up called From Dusk Till Shaun. So this shop walk recreation is probably the closest we’ll ever see to a return to the world of Shaun of the Dead.
