Simon West talks The Blob remake and designing the creature

Back in January we learned that EXPENDABLES 2 director Simon West was set to direct a new remake of the 1958 horror/sci-fi classic THE BLOB with principal photography eyed to begin this summer. Now West has spoken with Screen Relish to give a quick update on the project and shared that we will be seeing a different kind of Blob than what we've seen before in the original film and the excellent 1988 Chuck Russell-helmed remake.

West, who is currently in London shooting combat thriller STRATTON with MAN OF STEEL and BATMAN V SUPERMAN’s Henry Cavill, shared a quick update that includes a bit about when filming will begin and where they stand on creature design.

“THE BLOB will be happening right after. In August or October and that takes a little more planning because we’ve got to design the creature. It’s going to be much more sci-fi than the original. It’s a bigger scale type of movie. It’s more ALIEN meets PREDATOR and designing the creature is a long and involved process cause its very sophisticated. It’s not going to be the goo pouring through windows. So, that’s taking a while to design and construct that.”

Producers are Richard Saperstein and Brian Witten (SILENT NIGHT). Korea’s Taewon Entertainment and A-List Corporation are co-financing with Goldcrest. The 1958 film’s producer, Jack H Harris, will exec produce along with Judith Parker Harris, Shara Kay, and Laurence Freed.
