Since leaving his long-planned remake of LOGAN’S RUN, director Bryan Singer hasn’t dabbled much with science fiction, but he’s heading back to the genre… to give you three nights of viewing.
Singer will direct a six-hour miniseries for the Syfy network, which is essentially the Sci-Fi Channel but with asinine spelling and dubious marketing. The project (currently untitled) is desribed as an “action-adventure about the Mayan calendar predicting the end of the world,” in the vein of THE DA VINCI CODE and NATIONAL TREASURE.
“I have always been fascinated by the various myths and conspiracy theories surrounding the Mayan calendar,” sang Singer. “Our story will explore whether we are truly alone in the universe and other related mysteries, all of which are set against the backdrop of an incredibly exciting and fast-paced adventure.”
He’s only got three years to make it, while also dodging Roland Emmerich’s destructive capabilities.
