Sitges festival director being sued for screening child porn in A Serbian Film?

So who got a chance to see Srdjan Spasojevic’s A SERBIAN FILM? Was it as mortifying as everyone says it is?

Well I hope it was worth it for Sitges Film Festival director Angel Sala, because he could be facing charges of screening child pornography after playing the film at his gala last October. No, really…

Variety is reporting that Sala could face punishment, but it’s currently unclear if a lawsuit has been filed or not. What is clear, however, is that a formal complaint was issued by Concapa, Spain’s Catholic Confederation of Family and Student Parents. The complaint has since been addressed by Spain’s public prosecutor for minors.

Now, in case you’re unaware, there’s unspeakable terror in A SERBIAN FILM which depicts rape scenes involving a baby in one, and an 11 year old boy in another. According to the filmmakers, the scene with a baby was made with a doll and animatronics for the legs. The film has since been about as polarizing as a film could be, though I know our man Arrow didn’t seem too offended (PEEP HIS REVIEW).

As a result, there’s been widespread protest of the film in Spain, and a backlash that caused other festivals to yank the film from their rotation.

So, to sue or not to sue, that’s where we’re at. Care to opine? Are there legitimate grounds for Concapa to take action, or, like hundreds of thousands of movies before it, should A SERBIAN FILM be taken for it what it is: a work of fiction?

Spill some blood on the matter below!
