As fate would have it, I finally happened to catch THE EXPENDABLES last night. Not a perfect film…pretty silly actually…but as far as action set pieces and comic one-liners go, I had a damn good time. However, when the movie ended, I couldn’t help but think who Sly and company would recruit for the sequel. Van Damme? Seagal? Norris? Who else do THE EXPENDABLES need for an encore?
Well, addressing such a topic is Ivan Drago himself, Mr. Dolph Lundgren. While pimpin’ the DVD release of the film, the Swedish actor had this to say to Moviehole:
“I know they were talking about someone really young, like that guy, what’s his name? The guy that was in G.I. Joe…. Channing Tatum, or someone like him to bring that audience.”
Not to be outdone, Lundgren then claimed his UNIVERSAL SOLDIER pal Jean-Claude Van Damme is likely to appear in the sequel, and that he may actually get to fight the dude again.
“Stallone said something like, “Yeah, I want you to break his fucking neck somehow…”. So, we’ll see what happens!”.
“So, I think that there’s a certain chance he’ll be in it. As a bad guy he would be cool. I think he should play a bad guy. It’s a great way to come back, you know, because people aren’t used to that, doing a whole bunch of evil crap. People will be like, “Woah, he’s killing all these innocent people! Jesus!” That’d make them feel something.”
Hell yeah that’d make us feel something. Van Damme as psychopath would be pretty f*ckin’ ruler. Give the man an English accent and we might have the most entertaining flick of the year.
What says y’all? You down with seeing Van Damme and Channing Tatum in the sequel? Is it wise to mix action stars of old and new…or should Sly stick the halcyon heroes and call it a day?
