Sonequa Martin-Green would love to return for Walking Dead anthology series

Although The Walking Dead will be coming to an end with its eleventh season, the franchise is showing no signs of slowing down as AMC has a variety of Walking Dead projects in development, including Tales of the Walking Dead, which has been described as "an episodic anthology with individual episodes or arcs of episodes focused on new or existing characters, backstories or other stand-alone experiences." This format means that characters who have since shuffled off this mortal coil would have a way to come back, and Sonequa Martin-Green told Entertainment Weekly Live on SiriusXM that she'd absolutely be down to return to the franchise.

Sonequa Martin-Green played Sasha Williams on The Walking Dead, first appearing in the third season before exiting in the seventh season finale in a grand fashion. "I'd love it," Martin-Green said. "I'd loooooove it. I love Sasha. I love The Walking Dead. That was my family before [my Star Trek family]. What a blessing, by the way, that I've been able to be in two situations back to back that were so familiar that have such reach. I would love to. That would be so much fun." Martin-Green added that she'd love to explore more of Sasha's origins, much of which she created herself, including Sasha's pre-apocalypse occupation as a firefighter.

It would be interesting. I was always interested in backstory. Of course, I am as an actor with every character that I play. But as the years went on as Sasha, I was finding so much joy in developing so much backstory that no one would ever know. That's one of the great things about being an actor in TV, is that you get to build so much life over the years and over the seasons… I remember when I decided that I was a firefighter and then built all those memories for myself. But then that started to become part of the conversation. And it was nice. It was nice to be able to create in the privacy of your own home in your own little bubble and then have that become a part of the public conversation. That was really cool to see. So, yeah, that would be great.

In addition to Tales of the Walking Dead, there's also a spin-off that will focus on Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride), as well as a trilogy of Rick Grimes movies that will see the return of Andrew Lincoln. We also saw the debut of The Walking Dead: World Beyond earlier this year, as well as the sixth season of Fear the Walking Dead. Our Walking Dead cup runneth over. Sonequa Martin-Green can currently be seen starring in the third season of Star Trek: Discovery, and you can check out a review from our own Alex Maidy right here.
