Sony Classics locks North American rights to Almodovar’s The Skin I Live In

About three weeks ago we served up a plate-full of fresh details and first photos from Pedro Almodovar’s new thriller THE SKIN I LIVE IN. Today, we now know who’ll usher this bad boy to North American ports. Sony Classics!

That’s right y’all. Word out of Deadline has it that Sony Classics has acquired rights to the Spanish auteur’s latest work, which stars Antonio Banderas and Elena Anaya (below). Here’s a rundown of the film:

Since his wife perished burnt in a car crash, Dr Ledgard (Antonio Banderas), a well respected plastic surgeon, gets interested in the creation of a new type of skin that could have saved his wife. Twelve years later he succeeds in cultivating it at his lab, taking advantage in the advance made on cellular therapy. To get to his goal he doesn´t doubt in trespassing the ethical limit of the transgenesis with human beings. But this will not be the only crime he will commit…” Sounds like a f*cked up cross between FRANKENSTEIN and THE FOUNTAIN, it’s all about that last line though: “But this will not be the only crime he will commit.

Holding a March 18th, 2011 release window – THE SKIN I LIVE IN also stars Marisa Paredes, Jan Cornet, Roberto Alamo, Blanca Suarez, Eduard Fernandez, Jose Luis Gomez, Barbara Lennie, Susi Sanchez, Fernando Cayo and Teresa Manresa.
