Special showing of the 1933 King Kong will be on more than 600 screens

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Later this year we'll get to watch a clash between iconic screen monsters when GODZILLA VS. KONG reaches theatres, but before we get to that November 20th release Fathom Events will be bringing the original, 1933 KING KONG back to theatres, giving the film its first major theatrical re-release in nearly sixty-five years.

On March 15th, KING KONG will be showing on over 600 screens across the United States as part of Fathom Events' TCM Big Screen Classics series.

Directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack, this classic adventure film stars Fay Wray as

the beautiful woman who conquers the savage heart of a giant ape.

Traveling to an uncharted South Pacific island with an adventurer following tales of a God-Ape, Ann Darrow (Wray) is captured by the island's natives to serve as a human sacrifice to Kong. But when Kong, a giant ape, sees Darrow, it is overcome with love — and eventually captured by the adventurers. Taken to New York and put on display, Kong breaks free and pursues Darrow through New York in one of the most famous scenes ever filmed.

The original King Kong, breaking loose in cinemas! This special event includes exclusive insights from Turner Classic Movies.

Wray's co-stars in the film include Robert Armstrong, Bruce Cabot, and the incredible stop-motion effects crafted by Willis O'Brien.

Eighty-seven years down the line, the original KING KONG still remains my favorite King Kong movie, and I imagine it would be incredible to see it play out on the big screen. To see if this Fathom event will be bringing the film to a screen near you, head over to the Fathom Events website.
