Spectre’s John Logan brought in to revise script for Alien: Paradise Lost

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

ALIEN: PARADISE LOST, the upcoming sequel to PROMETHEUS, is aiming to begin production next February, but not without a few revisions to its screenplay. Jack Paglen (TRANSCENDENCE) was originally brought in to pen the sequel's script, after which Michael Green (GREEN LANTERN) was hired to rewrite Paglen's draft. Now Variety reports (spotted by /Film) that John Logan (SPECTRE), who has worked with Ridley Scott before on GLADIATOR, has been tapped to revise the script before it goes before the cameras.

John Logan's work has garnered some major praise over the years, so I'd imagine that his involvement can only mean good things for the PROMETHEUS sequel. Speaking of the sequel, Ridley Scott has been hinting at some of the questions which we may finally get an answer to, including the origin of the xenomorph.

One of the questions that had never been answered was why such a creature would be invented, and by whom. That opens much larger, more universal questions.

While Ridley Scott kicked off the ALIEN series with that incredible first film back in 1979, the franchise quickly passed to other directors including James Cameron and David Fincher. This time around however, Ridley Scott is hoping to keep PROMETHEUS and its sequels all to himself. The director told IGN that he "let the other one [Alien] get away from me – I shouldn’t have… I’m trying to re-resurrect the beast and let if off the hook for a while because I’m coming back into the back-end of Alien 1. I’m gradually getting to Alien 1." Scott's plan to have several PROMETHEUS sequels released before finally tying back to ALIEN is definitely ambitious, but I really do hope that he actually gets the chance to complete his vision.

We can expect to see ALIEN: PARADISE LOST in theaters on May 30, 2017.
