Neon has unveiled the first full trailer for Spencer, its Princess Diana biopic starring Kristen Stewart. The trailer offers you a front-row seat on Lady Di’s roller coaster of emotions as she attempts to navigate life as a royal figure. Meticulously crafted, beautifully shot, and bound to draw the attention of awards judges, Spencer was all anyone could talk about after Neon’s CinemaCon presentation.

The film appears to focus on the stress of being in the spotlight at all times. I can’t imagine what it’s like to have every breath you take, every move you make, be watched by the paparazzi. Then there’s the royal family, a gathering of judgemental crows looking to crow about your every misstep. It’s enough to drive anyone off the deep end. However, if I know one thing about Lady Di, it’s that she was more she was an expert swimmer, so to speak.

Our own Chris Bumbray was in attendance at this year’s CinemaCon, and gave us details about an extended clip he saw at the show:

In the extended clip we saw, Diana and Charles stand on opposite ends of a billiards table. As they argue, the camera cuts back and forth between each side of the table, slowly pulling in as the argument escalates. They argue about their respective affairs in coded language, with Charles eventually telling Diana, “There has to be two of you. The real one, and the one they take pictures of…you have to be able to make your body do things that you hate… for the good of the country. For the people, because they don’t want us to be people. I’m sorry – I thought you knew”.

Directed by Pablo Larraín, with a script by Steven Knight, the film details a weekend in the early ’90s. when Diana decided her marriage to Prince Charles wasn’t working and she decided she needed to veer from a path that had put her life in line to one day be queen. The story takes place over three days in one of her final Christmas holidays in the House of Windsor. Spenser stars Kristen Stewart, Timothy Spall, Jack Nielsen, Freddie Spry, Jack Farthing, Sean Harris, Stella Gonet, Richard Sammel, Elizabeth Berrington, and more.

Spencer will come to theaters on November 5, 2021.
