Spider-Man: Andrew Garfield says he has no plans to reprise the iconic role

According to Andrew Garfield, he has no plans to play Spider-Man anytime soon. Whether you believe him or not is up to you, but as far as Garfield is concerned, his web-slinging days are over.

“No plans, that’s the truth,” Garfield told Marc Malkin of Variety at the 28th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. “Everyone’s gonna call me a liar for the rest of my life. I’m the boy who cried wolf.”

Now, I’m not calling Garfield a liar, but according to Tick, Tick … Boom! director Lin-Manuel Miranda, Andrew is the type of actor who knows how to keep his mouth shut. Well, right up until the cat is out of the bag, it would seem.

“To his credit, he never said it to me,” Miranda said about Garfield never revealing his Spider-Man: No Way Home role while on the set of Tick, Tick … Boom! “He always denied it, but I was there the day it leaked. He was on my set in November when it leaked that he was in talks and I quietly went up to him and said, ‘Bro, are you in the new ‘Spider-Man?” and he went, ‘Shut up, shut up.’ It was the worst acting I’d ever seen him do. And I went, ‘He’s gotta practice that, that denial,’ and he got very good at it, but I was there when he first workshopped it.”

Miranda continued, “The euphemism became, ‘I’m seeing a friend in Atlanta, and I was like, ‘Say hi to your friend in Atlanta for me.’ His friend is two other Spidermen.”

While I do believe Garfield has no immediate plans to reprise his Spider-Man role, I think his tune could change if Sony were to dump a pile of money on his lawn. Ever since the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans of Garfield’s Spider-Man have been asking Sony to cast him in a proper sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man 2. While Sony might see this request as a step backward for the franchise, No Way Home has proven that nostalgia translates to big bucks.

What do you think Sony is planning next for Spider-Man? Is there a way to top the excitement of Spider-Man: No Way Home? If Andrew Garfield does get another Spider-Man movie under his belt, would he be able to keep it a secret? Let us know if you believe Garfield in the comments section below. And while you’re at it, tell us what you would do with the future of Sony’s Spider-Man franchise.
