Is Spider-Man here to save the summer box office? According to analysts, the latest chapter of Sony and Marvel‘s Spider-Man Universe, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, could swing $180M-$190M in its three-week tracking window. If these numbers pan out, Brand New Day could become the second-biggest opening of the franchise behind 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which earned $260.1 million, the second-biggest domestic opening behind Avengers: Endgame, and the biggest opening in the States for 2026, ahead of Toy Story 5 ($159.6M).
Audiences love a Spider-Man movie. The numbers are proof of that. As it stands, Brand New Day is behind No Way Home in advance ticket sales, but that’s not a reason to panic. Brand New Day is already posting the best first-day presales of any film since No Way Home, underscoring just how big a deal the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler’s return to the silver screen is.
While Spider-Man: Brand New Day won’t have IMAX screenings in auditoriums, thanks largely to the anticipated release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Brand New Day’s PLF game is strong. Additionally, people want the new Spider-Man film so bad that it hardly matters where they see it. Instant gratification is often king when it comes to blockbuster superhero cinema. A lot of people want to be part of the conversation, making the need for IMAX less strong. Don’t get me wrong, the IMAX presentation is a nice boon to the experience, but hardly necessary.
In addition to helming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the film’s director, Destin Daniel Cretton, is gearing up to direct and write a live-action Naruto film. A global casting search for the project’s stars is officially underway, with Cretton looking to cast Naruto and his Team 7 squad members Sasuke and Sakura.
“Kishimoto-sensei’s stories have inspired generations of fans around the globe, and it’s an honor to bring his world and characters to the big screen in live action for the very first time,” said Cretton in a recent Instagram post. “I’m thrilled to kick off this worldwide casting search for our Team 7 and to bring the incredible universe of Naruto to life.”
