Spiderhead images feature Chris Hemsworth and Miles Teller in Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi film

Experimenting on prisoners is a nasty business. However, Chris Hemsworth‘s new character in the movie Spiderhead thinks it holds the key to improving his latest drugs, which alter the emotions of those who take them. Sounds harmless enough, right? Wrong. In a new batch of Spiderhead images, we find Hemsworth and Miles Teller engaged in some nefarious activity as experiments go awry.

According to Entertainment Weekly‘s exclusive coverage, Spiderhead stars Hemsworth as Steve Abnesti, a scientist who tests drugs on convicts at a remote, state-of-the-art penitentiary. The twist: The drugs dramatically and immediately alter the moods and abilities of the inmates. The problem: Not all emotions enhanced by Abnesti’s experiments are positive.

Written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Spiderhead is based on George Saunders’ 2010 New Yorker short story “Escape From Spiderhead.” Starring alongside Hemsworth in the Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) directed film is a cast that features Miles Teller, Jurnee Smollett, BeBe Bettencourt, Tess Haubrich, Angie Milliken, Stephen Tongun, Mark Paguio, Sam Delich, and Joey Vieira.

You can check out the new Spiderhead images below. The first one features Hemsworth’s Abnesti looking pensive, perhaps reflecting on the next phase of his plans. Another image finds Abnesti piloting a speedboat while Teller sits blindfolded in the back seat. There are two jacked henchmen on either side of Teller’s character, each wearing matching outfits and facial hair. Lastly, we find Smollett’s character, Lizzy, sitting side-by-side with Teller’s Jeff. The duo is holding hands and appears to be engaged in an emotional conversation.

Teller explained to EW that Jeff “works closely with, and sort of forms a friendship with, Abnesti.” Talking about the relationship between the incarcerated Jeff and the scientist, Teller says that he aimed to “portray that sense of trust, in the beginning, to help show that there’s a real earnestness and sincerity on Abnesti’s part; toward helping everybody.”

In addition to featuring some of Hollywood’s hottest stars, Spiderhead also boasts a killer soundtrack with such vintage pop hits as Thomas Dolby’s “She Blinded Me With Science” and Hall & Oates’ “You Make My Dreams.”
