While the 2021 summer movie season is shaping up to be a quiet one for obvious reasons, there are a couple of bright spots and one of them, no doubt, comes from Netflix with the latest “Spike Lee Joint”, DA 5 BLOODS, coming out on June 12th. By all accounts, this is classic Spike Lee and certainly, with the new Academy Awards rules stating movies released on streaming will be eligible (this year), no doubt it’ll be a major awards play for the service.
In it, four black Vietnam veterans return to Vietnam to recover the body of a fallen comrade (played by Chadwick Boseman), and based on the trailer, this is gonna be action-packed and provocative, in true Spike Lee fashion. I can’t wait, and to get folks even more hyped for the June 12th release date, Netflix has put out a gorgeous commemorative Memorial Day poster for the film. Man oh man, am I excited to see this one or what!
