Star Trek Discovery casts Spock’s Father, also Spock’s father is on the show

So apparently Spock's full-green-blooded Vulcan father Sarek will be joining the cast of STAR TREK DISCOVERY, played by James Frain (GOTHAM, ORPHAN BLACK). And I'm sure Frain is a fine actor (and a dead ringer for a young Mark Lenard), but I do love his clearly written by him imdb bio: "James Frain is one of Hollywood's most versatile and respected actors who has a reputation for bold, intelligent performances in a diverse body of work in which he's collaborated with some of the finest actors and directors working today." No one's gonna believe in you if you don't believe in yourself. Frain gets it, and I respect that.

Unfortunately, along with that casting announcement is the news that the production has been delayed. As per a CBS press release:

Production on ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ begins next week. We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created. This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it’s best for the show. We’ve said from the beginning it’s more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn’t beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows.

Damn. While it sucks that it'll be longer before we can see the show, the fact that they're saying "it’s more important to do this right than to do it fast" is a really good sign. I admit I'm worried of the STAR WARS-esque "Remember this character" prequel problem (I'm looking at you, f*cking Ponda Baba and Cornelius Evazan from ROGUE ONE!), but I feel Spock's father is far enough removed from the main cast to not be too egregious, and they can most certainly find a way to make his inclusion organic. I'm optimistic.

Either way, it seems STAR TREK DISCOVERY will premiere when it's good and ready.
