Star Trek: Discovery, Strange New Worlds & Lower Decks all renewed at Paramount+

We’ve got a hell of a lot of Star Trek in our future. Paramount+ announced today that they have renewed Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for new seasons.

Four years ago, we made a promise to grow ‘Star Trek’ into something it had never been before, and thanks to the incredibly hard work done by our many talented showrunners, writers, and directors, along with the extraordinary support of CBS Studios and Paramount Plus, we’re keeping our word,” said Star Trek franchise producer Alex Kurtzman. “Now our current shows are set up for the future as we work to build ‘Trek’s’ next phase of programming for years to come.Star Trek: Discovery is currently in the midst of its fourth season, so this renewal means that the series will return for a fifth season. According to TrekCore, the fifth season of Discovery will consist of ten episodes. This will bring it into line with the other Star Trek series, but will mark Discovery’s shortest season yet. The third season of Star Trek: Lower Decks will debut later this summer, with a fourth season now in the works. As for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the first season of the Captain Pike (Anson Mount) series hasn’t premiered yet but Paramount+ obviously has faith in it if they’ve already renewed it for a second season.

In addition to the multiple renewals, Paramount+ has also announced that the second season of Star Trek: Picard will debut on March 3rd, followed by the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on May 5th. Production on the third season of Picard is currently underway (it briefly shut down due to COVID exposures earlier this month) and is expected to debut in 2023. Combined with what remains of the current seasons of Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Prodigy, we’ve got enough weekly Star Trek on tap to take us well into the summer.
