THR has reported that production on Star Trek: Picard has been halted after a sizable number of the crew tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

CBS Studios declined to comment but sources told THR that more than 50 members of the Star Trek: Picard production had tested positive for COVID-19. It’s said that the infections were found in multiple zones, including members of the cast in zone A. Before you ask, Patrick Stewart is apparently not among those who tested positive. Production on the series shut down on Monday but it could resume as early as next week. Star Trek: Picard has one of the largest television crews at the moment, with over 450 members, so this is a fairly sizeable outbreak. Star Trek: Picard isn’t the only production to hit the pause button due to COVID-19 recently as NCIS recently stopped shooting due to a positive test. NCIS: LA, Chicago Fire, and other shows have also delayed starting production on their new seasons due to the spreading Omicron variant.

The second season of Star Trek: Picard will once again see Patrick Stewart returning as Jean-Luc Picard, with the rest of the cast filled out by Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Orla Brady, Evan Evagora, Brent Spiner, and Jeri Ryan. John de Lancie has also returned as Q and it’s expected that Whoopi Goldberg will be back as Guinan. We don’t know all that much about the second season at the moment, only that it seems to involve time travel, alternate timelines, and the Borg Queen. Star Trek: Picard season two will premiere on Paramount+ next month, but the series was already renewed for a third season, which the crew were in the middle of shooting before the multiple positive COVID tests forced them to halt.
