Star Wars and Fortnite officially announce three new islands to help players “feel the Force,” including a horror game with Darth Vader

Ahead of this year’s May the 4th celebration for the legendary Star Wars franchise, Epic Games and Disney are excited to announce that more exciting Star Wars-related content is coming to Fortnite, the ever-evolving battle royale featuring more licensed characters than anyone can hope to count. The new content arrives in the form of Star Wars-inspired islands in Unreal Editor for Fortnite and Fortnite Creative. Players can begin feeling the Force on May 1, when developers will be able to take characters, templates, tools, gameplay features, locations, vehicles, and weapons from past Fortnite Battle Royale Seasons to make new islands.

May the Fortnite be with you

The update facilitates the launch of three islands, “Galactic Siege,” “Droid Tycoon,” and “Escape Vader,” all created using the new “Star Wars x UEFN” developer tools.

“‘Star Wars’ continues to be one of the most powerful and enduring franchises in entertainment, and this year represents an extraordinary moment for fans around the world,” said Sean Shoptaw, executive VP of Disney Games and Digital Entertainment. “With new stories, new characters, and new ways to experience the galaxy, we’re expanding the universe in ways that feel both fresh and deeply connected to what audiences’ love. The momentum across games, streaming, and immersive experiences is incredibly exciting, and we’re just beginning to tap into what’s possible for the future of ‘Star Wars.'”

What are the three new Star Wars-themed islands?

Here are the official descriptions for each new island:

Galactic Siege (developed with JOGO Studios, island code: 5003-9856-3648) – Fight in large-scale PvP class-based battles with 10v10 combat across iconic Star Wars planets.

Escape Vader (made with Beyond Creative, island code: 7285-4185-5428) – Hide, run, and try to survive in this 4-player co-op game where you attempt to escape the terrifying Sith Lord, Darth Vader.

Droid Tycoon (created with FOAD, island code: 7865-8305-9184) – Build and customize droids using authentic Star Wars blueprints, manage your workshop and factory systems, and unlock rare components and special missions.

A Star Wars-themed horror game, you say?

“Escape Vader” is the most intriguing addition to Fortnite by far. Described as a Star Wars “horror game,” this mode finds a group of rebels infiltrating a derelict Star Destroyer and coming face to face with Darth Vader. Players must work together to escape the Sith Lord’s grasp while being relentlessly hunted. It sounds like a Star Wars version of Alien: Isolation, but Darth Vader is the lone Xenomorph hunting Ripley’s daughter. Up to four players can join the game. It’s going to be intense.

“When we started brainstorming about this experience, we wanted to create something bold, and we wanted to be a little bit different,” said Kasper Weber, Beyond Creative’s CEO and co-founder. “This is why we landed on doing something horror, because we ealized that we all had in common this very twisted childhood question that we all had in our minds when watching the original movies and and the sequels, which was ‘How would it feel to be chased by Vader in some of those like iconic ship corridors? How would it be to feel his wrath?”

Which new island are you most interested in? Will you planet-hop while battling strangers and noobs? Attempt to escape Darth Vader’s wrath? Or build your own droid? I’m in the midst of playing Pragmata, Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred, and Saros right now, but if I can find the time, I’ll try to check this out.
