Steve-O on Jackass: Best & Last — And His Wild Plan If He Ever Wins an Oscar

This weekend is shaping up to be one of the most interesting at the box office this summer. While Toy Story 5 is expected to continue its dominant run and Supergirl looks poised to disappoint, another release is quietly making its way into theaters with a very different goal. Jackass: Best and Last serves as both a farewell to one of the most outrageous franchises ever made and a celebration of everything that made it such a pop culture phenomenon.

Unlikely to challenge for the number-one spotJackass: Best and Last could nevertheless prove to be one of the weekend’s most profitable releases. With a built-in fan base and a modest budget, the film has every chance of outperforming expectations, especially as audiences look for an alternative to the summer’s bigger studio offerings.

Rather than simply offering one final collection of outrageous stunts, Jackass: Best and Last mixes brand-new material with some of the crew’s greatest hits, while also featuring never-before-seen footage from throughout the franchise’s history. It’s designed as both a nostalgic look back and a fitting send-off for Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, and the rest of the gang. As someone who’s been a fan since the MTV days, it’s hard not to be excited for one last ride.

Ahead of the film’s release, I was fortunate enough to sit down with Steve-O thanks to the fine folks at Paramount. During our conversation, we discussed what audiences can expect from Jackass: Best and Last, why now felt like the right time to close the book on the series, and which stunt from his remarkable career he’s the proudest of.

Perhaps most importantly, Steve-O also gave us an encouraging update on longtime friend and Jackass cast member Bam Margera, whose health and recovery have been a major concern for fans over the last several years.

And because no Steve-O interview would be complete without going off the rails, we also talked about the possibility of a Best Stunts category at the Oscars—and his hilariously dark plan for what he’d do if he ever won one.
