“Extant,” this summer’s new sci-fi series produced by Steven Spielberg and starring Halle Berry, has just added actress Tessa Ferrer (pictured below) to the main cast. According to TV Guide, Ferrer will recur as Katie Sparks, an over-achieving astronaut and the daughter of Michael O’Neill’s Alan Sparks, who serves as the director of the ISEA.

Check out the first photo from the series, featuring Berry and Goran Visnjic, above. No, not exactly exciting, but I’m guessing this is a calm moment before the storm.

Halle Berry stars as Molly Woods, a female astronaut trying to reconnect with her family after returning from a year in outer space. Her mystifying experiences in space lead to events that will ultimately change the course of human history. Goran Visnjic stars alongside Berry as her husband.

EXTANT premieres Wednesday, July 9 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on CBS.
