Streep & Hoffman have Doubt

Oscar prognosticators, get your charts ready, we already got a candidate for the 2008 season. Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman have signed on to star in the upcoming Miramax adaptation o fthe award-winning play DOUBT. Scott Rudin, who signed a deal with the new Miramax, will produce the film for the studio. John Patrick Shanley, who wrote the play, wrote the script and will direct the film. The story, which won a Pulitzer and a Tony (oooh-la-la), follows a nun (Streep) who accuses a popular priest of molesting some of the children at their Catholic school. Streep is currently in rehearsals for the musical MAMMA MIA! while Hoffman is getting ready to film the Charlie Kaufman film SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK. Filming on DOUBT is scheduled to begin December 1st.
