Sundown: Vestron is bringing Bruce Campbell vampire film to Blu-ray

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

It's sort of shocking that we don't hear about the horror comedy Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat (watch it HERE) more often, since it was directed by Anthony Hickox (Waxwork, Waxwork II: Lost in Time, Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, Warlock: The Armageddon) and stars Bruce Campbell, David Carradine, Deborah Foreman, M. Emmet Walsh, and Dana Ashbrook… But the movie's release was bungled back in the day, and it has passed by a lot of genre fans. So it's good to know that Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat is going to be the next Blu-ray release in the Vestron Video Collectors Series.

A release date has not yet been announced and the Blu-ray hasn't shown up on Amazon yet, but Target has started taking pre-orders.

Here's hoping that this release will get Sundown into the hands of a lot of horror fans who haven't seen it yet.

Scripted by John Burgess and Hickox, Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat has the following synopsis:

An engineer (Jim Metzler) comes to a Western town with his wife (Morgan Brittany) to fix a vampire's (David Carradine) artificial-plasma plant.

The movie screened at a few film festivals in 1989, but ended up being sent straight to VHS in 1991. There was a DVD release in 2008, and you can pick up a copy of that HERE if you're not into the whole Vestron Blu-ray thing.

Renowned special feature producer Michael Felsher is involved with getting the Sundown Blu-ray together, and shared a look at the cover art on his Facebook account:

While we wait to hear when Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat will be reaching store shelves, we already know that the next Vestron release is the 1986 sci-fi action classic The Wraith. The street date for that one is July 20th, and you can pre-order a copy at THIS LINK. To help you decide whether or not you want a copy of The Wraith, here's our recommendation:
