The runtime for DC’s Supergirl is seemingly revealed, making it one of the studio’s shortest superhero films

DC StudiosSupergirl arrives in theaters on June 26, and a new listing from the Irish Film Classification Office has revealed the superhero spectacle’s runtime. According to IFCO, Supergirl clocks in at exactly 107′ 55″, meaning it’s just shy of 1 hour and 48 minutes. If these numbers are accurate, it means Supergirl is one of DC’s shortest superhero films to date.

Is Supergirl’s shorter runtime cause for concern? I don’t think so. A lean runtime does not reflect a film’s quality. For example, 2000’s Blood: The Last Vampire is only 50 minutes long, and it’s an animated banger from start to finish that gets you in and out of the action in less than an hour. If 1 hour and 48 minutes is all DC needs to tell Kara’s solo story, then so be it.

Supergirl looks awesome, and I know enough about the story from reading the comics to feel excited about what’s to come when the film reaches cinemas later this month. They’re even extending the original story by adding Jason Momoa’s Lobo to the mix, a character cut from the comic’s original draft. Sure, the movie has some Guardians of the Galaxy vibes, but that’s the overall look of the DCU, given that James Gunn is in charge. I can deal with that. It’s a nice, sleek look.

What’s Supergirl about?

Supergirl will be directed by Craig Gillespie and scripted by Ana Nogueira. The film takes inspiration from the comic series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost.

Who stars in Supergirl?

Supergirl stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Emily Beechum as Alura, Jason Momoa as Lobo, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll.
