Superman: Legacy: James Gunn shares artwork of what Nicholas Hoult could look like as Lex Luthor

The end of the year is nigh! However, before the ball drops in Times Square and the New Year’s Baby puts Father Time out to pasture, James Gunn is teasing fans with what Nicholas Hoult could look like as Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy. Gunn posted artwork created by davi_a86 to his Instagram account, depicting Hoult as the chrome-domed mastermind with a penchant for building mech suits infused with kryptonite.

A Hoult-inspired Lex Luthor projects a smarmy smile while holding a brightly glowing kryptonite fragment in the image. Drawn in the style of an old-school comic book cover, Hoult’s Luthor dons a purple blazer with a green undershirt. As his baby blues pierce your soul, his knowing smirk tells you Lex is up to no good. Gunn shared the artwork on his Instagram Stories, so unless you got a screenshot or highlighted it, it’s already gone poof!

According to Production List, filming for Superman: Legacy takes flight on March 4, 2024. While the description for Superman: Legacy is brief, the summary reads: “Superman, a cub reporter in Metropolis, embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent.”

David Corenswet (Pearl) will star in Superman: Legacy as Clark Kent alongside Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) as Lois Lane. We’ll also see Nathan Fillion (The Rookie) as Guy Gardner, a charismatic and slightly obnoxious member of the Green Lantern Corps; Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) as Mister Terrific; and Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Metamorpho. It was also recently announced that María Gabriela de Faría (Deadly Class) would be playing The Engineer, a member of The Authority.

What do you think about davi_a86’s depiction of Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor? Don’t you want to wipe that unctuous smile off his face? I can’t wait to see Corenswet’s Man of Steel give him a non-lethal punch to the bread basket. Are you excited for Hoult to join the cast? Can his Luthor performance measure up to Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey, and Jesse Eisenberg, who’ve played the character in previous films? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
