It’s official! After weeks of screen tests, James Gunn has settled on his Clark Kent and Lois Lane for Superman: Legacy. David Corenswet, long presumed to be the frontrunner, will be playing Superman, with The Marvelous Ms. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan stepping into the shoes of Lois Lane.

The screen tests for the leading roles in Superman: Legacy took place last week with the actors in the running taking part in several scenes, one of which had them in the full Superman costume. In addition to David Corenswet, the other actors up for the role of Superman were Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney. As for Lois Lane, the other contenders were Phoebe Dynevor and Emmy Mackey. Now that the leading roles have been cast, it’s expected that James Gunn will move on to casting Lex Luthor as well as the members of The Authority, who are said to be making their first appearance in Superman: Legacy.

Thanks to The Marvelous Ms. Maisel, which recently concluded its five-season run, Rachel Brosnahan is likely the more well known of the two, but David Corenswet has certainly been making himself known. The actor had a leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood miniseries for Netflix. He also appeared in The Politician, another Netflix series from Ryan Murphy. Corenswet also starred alongside Mia Goth in Pearl and will also appear in the upcoming Twister sequel.

James Gunn will write and direct Superman: Legacy, and he has promised that the tone of the movie will be different from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Co-chair of DC Studios Peter Safran has also teased that Superman: Legacy will not be an origin story and will focus on “Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned.Superman: Legacy will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

How do you feel about David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as the new Superman and Lois Lane?
