Syfy cancels Z Nation, series finale airs this Friday

Z Nation

I am completely up-to-date on the AMC shows The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead, watching every episode the night they air and reviewing them here on Arrow in the Head… But there's another zombie series that I have been neglecting. Syfy's Z Nation. I've never watched a single episode (or a single minute) of that show, even though I have always intended to check it out. Now when I do check it out, I'll know exactly how many episodes I'll have to look forward to watching, as producer David Michael Latt has announced that Syfy has chosen not to renew the show for a sixth season.

Z Nation's run will end with its season five finale, which will air on Syfy this Friday, December 28th. Although Latt and his collaborators were hoping to move forward with a sixth season, this season finale turned series finale does have a very appropriate title: The End of Everything.

When it ends, Z Nation will have a total of 68 episodes.

With a cast that includes Russell Hodgkinson, Nat Zang, Kellita Smith, DJ Qualls, Anastasia Baranova, and Keith Allan, the show tells the story of

a ragtag team attempting to transport the only known survivor of a zombie virus across post-apocalyptic America to a lab that's waiting for his blood. But what they don't know is that their last, best hope for a vaccine is hiding a dark secret that threatens them all.

Fans will still be able to see more stories set in the world of Z Nation next spring when Netflix presents the spin-off series Black Summer, starring Jaime King.
