Syfy has officially greenlit the Tremors pilot starring Kevin Bacon

Tremors Kevin Bacon

Kevin Bacon has been planning to return to the world of TREMORS with a mini-series from Universal Cable Productions and Blumhouse Television, and just yesterday we learned that the project, which was once being set up at Amazon, had moved over to Syfy. That news came from a simple quote provided by Bacon, "We are going to do a pilot for Syfy."

That is officially happening now, as Syfy has announced that they have given a pilot order to the project. Andrew Miller has written the pilot and will serve as showrunner, executive producing the series alongside Bacon, David Schiff, and Jessica Rhoades.

In this mini-series, which Bacon has said will run eight episodes,

the killer Graboid worms that nearly destroyed Perfection, Nevada 25 years ago are back, and the town's only hope for survival is Valentine McKee (Bacon), who beat them once. But to do it again he'll have to overcome age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex.

Bacon had this to say about the series:

This is the only character I've played that I've ever thought about revisiting. I just got to thinking, ‘Where would this guy end up after 25 years?’ Andrew Miller has a fantastic take on it, and we hope to create a show that will be fun and scary for fans of the movie and folks that have yet to discover it. Let's kick some Graboid ass!"

Producer Jason Blum says the series will be "thrilling original fans and new audiences alike".

This is the second project Blumhouse has set up at Syfy this year. The company is developing a series based on the PURGE franchise that will air on both Syfy and USA Network.

Bacon starred in the original TREMORS film, but didn't return for the sequels TREMORS II: AFTERSHOCKS, TREMORS 3: BACK TO PERFECTION, TREMORS 4: THE LEGEND BEGINS, or TREMORS 5: BLOODLINES. One TREMORS star who did return for all of those is Michael Gross, who also starred in a thirteen episode Tremors series that aired on Syfy (back when it was the SciFi Channel) in 2003. Gross is also in the lead of TREMORS 6, which Universal will be releasing on home video on January 30, 2018. It's not clear if Gross will be asked to join the cast of the Bacon-led mini-series.

The pilot for the mini-series is a go, but we'll have to wait and see if Syfy wants to go forward with the rest of the episodes. I can't imagine they would turn down the chance to air eight episodes of Kevin Bacon having a rematch with the Graboids.
