Tagline, you’re it!

Now here’s a career (option) I’ve never considered: movie tagline writer. I’ve never given thought to who’s behind those sometimes wonderful, sometimes weak stabs at attention grabbing. Movie taglines can be amazing, like ‘Houston, we have a problem” (although that was part of the script) to absolutely atrocious, like the tagline for CATCH & RELEASE: “Life is Messy. Love is Messier.”

An eye-opening article on Porfolio.com profiles one of these dudes that comes up with these little catch phrases while getting paid a hefty sum to do it, real hefty. His name is Jason Byers, and the article tracks his beginnings as an advertising copywriter to sought-after Hollywood tagline writer. ARMAGEDDON’S “It’s time to kick some asteroid.” This is something I can totally see myself doing. Byers, if you’re reading this, how’s this for RUSH HOUR 3: “Chan you dig it?” See?
