Taika Waititi says Love and Thunder will double down on Ragnarok craziness

Thor: Love and Thunder, Taika Waititi

After THOR and THOR: THE DARK WORLD, Taika Waititi's THOR: RAGNAROK felt like a breath of fresh air with its zany characters and distinctive humour. Sure, the film wasn't everyone's cup of tea, and if you're one of those people who are hoping that the upcoming THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER will dial it back a bit, you're probably going to be disappointed.

Taika Waititi is set to return as director of THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER and he recently completed the first script for the sequel. Obviously it's too early to reveal any big details, but Waititi recently teased to Wired that LOVE AND THUNDER is "going to be bigger and louder and more bombastic. It's only interesting to me if we're doubling down on how nuts Ragnarok was." Waititi also confirmed once again that he'll be coming back as Korg, the soft-spoken Sakaar gladiator, as he "really loves" playing the character. In addition to Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi, the cast of THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER will also include Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, who will be wielding Mjolnir as The Mighty Thor.

Waititi also commented on fans shipping the characters of Valkyrie (Thompson) and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson). When Thompson mentioned that Valkyrie "needs to find her queen" in LOVE AND THUNDER at Comic-Con International earlier this year, fans immediately put the pair together, but Taika Waititi isn't a fan of giving audiences exactly what they want. "The thing is, I think it's dangerous for people to say too much about what they want with Marvel, because then they will tend to go the other way," Waititi said. "You want to listen to the fans to a point. But also you don't want to have a completely fan-made film because then it doesn't feel like there's any point. You want to have people surprised."

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER will hit theaters on November 5, 2021.
