Taissa Farmiga and Malin Akerman to star in horror-comedy The Final Girls

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

"American Horror Story's" Taissa Farmiga and WATCHMAN actress Malin Akerman have been tapped to star in Groundswell Productions' upcoming horror-comedy THE FINAL GIRLS, which was just scooped up by Sony Pictures Worldwide for distribution, according to Screen Daily.

Todd Strauss-Schulson will direct from a screenplay by M A Fortin and Joshua John Miller, with Michael London and Janice Williams producing.

THE FINAL GIRLS tells the tale of…

…the grieving daughter of a 1980s scream queen who finds herself trapped in her mother’s most famous film. The women are reunited and must fight off the film’s maniacal killer before the daughter can return to her life.

Production is scheduled to commence in Louisiana in April.

We first heard about THE FINAL GIRLS way back in 2011 when the film was originally set up at New Line. It sounds like a fun idea and the addition of Farmiga, who has been riding high on the success of "American Horror Story", puts this one near the top of my 'most anticipated' list.

More on THE FINAL GIRLS as we hear it.
