Taken director Pierre Morel opts for EDF over Ouija as his next feature film

And the Frenchman’s made his choice…

Four days ago Pacheco told y’all it was between EDF (EARTH DEFENSE FORCE) and OUIJA for TAKEN director Pierre Morel’s next flick…and it looks like the man’s opted for a large-scale alien attack over a spooky board-game. According to Variety, Morel (above) is ironing out a deal to direct EDF…and is no longer a part Universal’s OUIJA adaptation. Damn, 4 days is like 4 years in H-town!

As we reported back in September, Sam Raimi and DISTRICT 9 producer Bill Block’s QED International are setting up the project. Danny Strong will rewrite Andrew Marlowe’s script. Here’s a story break down:

In EDF, we open on a U.S. military operation gone awry: Sent to rescue what they believe is a sub that’s accidentally bumped into a mine in Chinese waters, U.S. naval aviators quickly wind up engaged in a dogfight with a squadron of Chinese air force pilots. Soon, planes on both sides are being shot out of the sky, but not by the Chinese or US pilots, but by three alien attack fighters, which soon depart and destroy many of the world’s landmarks and military installations, then, vanish. It’s a test of Earth’s defensive capabilities, and we failed. Shortly after, NASA detects a radiation signature in a nearby galaxy, indicating a far more massive attack coming in about ten months, and world leaders set about trying to create super-aircraft and weapons that can fight off the coming invasion.

A pretty large undertaking for Morel, ay? You think he’s up to it or should he have gone ahead and directed OUIJA instead?
